Your money may double.
But will it be enough for your goal?
Your KVP maturity amount may look attractive. But if this money is meant for an important goal, the real question is:
“जब मुझे इस पैसे की जरूरत होगी, तब मुझे वास्तव में कितनी रकम चाहिए होगी?”

Timing Check
Will the future amount have the same purchasing power?
Prices generally rise over time, so a future amount may not buy the same things it can buy today.
This does not change your nominal KVP maturity amount. It only illustrates the possible effect of rising prices.

Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP) क्या है?
Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP) is a Government-backed Post Office savings scheme available under the National Savings framework. This KVP calculator helps you calculate the normal maturity amount using the applicable Kisan Vikas Patra interest rate and maturity period.
Current KVP Information
Who can open a KVP?
Eligible individuals under current scheme rules include permitted single and joint holdings and eligible guardian/minor arrangements. New NRI investment is not permitted under the currently verified National Savings eligibility framework.
Can I close KVP before maturity?
Yes, but specific premature-closure rules apply. The 2 years 6 months point is important under current rules, while specified circumstances may permit earlier closure. This calculator intentionally does not estimate premature-closure proceeds.
Is KVP tax-free?
No. KVP should not be treated as tax-free merely because tax may not be deducted at source in the usual way. No TDS does not automatically mean no tax. KVP-specific Section 80C deduction should not be assumed.
Can KVP be transferred or pledged?
Transfer between account offices is permitted subject to procedure. Person-to-person transfer is allowed only under specified conditions. KVP may also be pledged as security subject to applicable rules and lender acceptance.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the current Kisan Vikas Patra interest rate in the Post Office?
As last verified on 06 October 2026, the Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP) interest rate is 7.5% per annum, with the normal maturity period of 115 months (9 years 7 months) under the currently applicable terms. Rates and maturity periods can change through Government notification, so always check the latest official information.
How does the Kisan Vikas Patra Post Office scheme work?
You invest an eligible lump-sum amount in Kisan Vikas Patra under the applicable National Savings rules. The Government-notified terms at the time of opening determine the interest rate and normal maturity period. Under the currently verified terms, the invested amount becomes twice the original amount at normal maturity.
How do I calculate KVP maturity amount?
Enter your KVP investment amount in the calculator above. If you already have a KVP, you can also enter the opening date so the calculator can use the supported verified terms for that period and calculate the normal maturity amount and maturity date. For current normal-maturity terms, the calculator applies the official maturity rule rather than treating KVP as a generic compound-interest investment.
Where can I open a Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP) account?
KVP accounts can be opened at Post Offices and authorised banks, subject to the applicable Government rules and available facilities. India Post also provides certain online facilities for eligible customers through its Internet Banking system.
What documents are required to open a KVP account?
Generally, you need the prescribed account-opening form and KYC documents such as PAN and Aadhaar. If Aadhaar is not available, prescribed alternative documents may be accepted. Joint accounts require KYC of all joint holders, and a minor's account requires the guardian's KYC. Additional documents may be required depending on the amount invested or applicable KYC rules.
Will my KVP interest rate change after I invest?
KVP terms applicable to an investment are based on the Government-notified terms applicable when the account is opened. Rates for new investments may be revised from time to time. Therefore, an older KVP should be checked using the terms applicable to its opening date rather than simply using today's rate.
Is nomination available in KVP?
Yes. Nomination facility is available for KVP. India Post's current savings-scheme guidance provides for nomination at account opening and also allows changes through the prescribed process.
Can an NRI open a new KVP account?
Under the current National Small Savings eligibility guidance, NRIs are not eligible to open new National Small Savings Scheme accounts. Eligibility rules can change, so current official rules should be checked before investing.
How do I open a KVP account?
You can open a KVP by following the applicable account-opening process through a Post Office or authorised bank. At India Post, the process requires the prescribed account-opening and KYC requirements. Eligible DoP Internet Banking customers may also have online KVP opening facilities. Always check the current process before investing because operational procedures can change.
